A very common problem raised by most tinnitus sufferers is a problem with sleep and most of them look for new tinnitus treatment that could help them overcome this problem. Sleep becomes a problem because the ringing in the ears of those who have tinnitus becomes awfully loud at night when the surroundings are usually quiet as compared to daytime. It is at this time of the day when most people are asleep and when a tinnitus sufferer wants to take some rest by sleeping but they just can’t.

People who are having difficulty sleeping can try a treatment called tinnitus masking therapy. With this therapy the patient is exposed to white noise so that hopefully the white noise will mask the noise they have in their ears. While this type of treatment is effective, it should only be used as a temporary fix.

Unfortunately, white noise can only be a temporary treatment. If the sufferer is wearing the masker, he will have some relief from the noise. However, once the masker is removed, the noise returns immediately. Because of this shortcoming, tinnitus sufferers prefer to have treatments that are much more effective in allowing them to sleep longer and more soundly.

Because the problem is sleep, there are recommendations to use melatonin since it is known to be effective as a sleep aid. There are commercially sold melatonin tablets but must not be taken in just like that without proper guidance from a doctor. Melatonin should not be taken in large doses and at the wrong time of the day because it may interfere with the natural ability of our body to produce it.

Beta-carotene is another substance which appears to reduce the noise of tinnitus. If you read the labels on popular tinnitus medications, you’ll see that most of them contain Vitamin A as one of the main ingredients. When a sufferer ingests an increased amount of beta-carotene, their body changes the amount it needs to Vitamin A. The excess is then passed from the body as waste.

The use of melatonin and beta-carotene as new tinnitus treatment is highly welcomed by those who have tinnitus. Any help they can get in minimizing the ringing in the ears is certainly a welcome news. Vitamin A can actually help those who have tinnitus by boosting their immune systems. A healthy immune system makes them feel good about themselves, thus they don’t feel the ringing noise in their ears that much.
