Several decades ago, environment problems were considered a low priority. This is because men were yet to make new machines and new technology that made extensive use of the oil. This also made emission of dangerous air pollutants negligible.

Recent growth in manufacturing plants producing new cars, more powerful machines, automated gigantic equipment also magnified the production pollutants. The Earth has its own ability to absorb and actually purify the air that will be breath in by humans. However, the industrialized society’s pollutants are becoming too much for the Earth to handle. It is now unable to purify the air completely. At this time, efforts should be directed towards finding ways on how to purify the air.

The primary air pollutants found in areas of civilization are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, hydrocarbons, and particulate matter (both solid and liquid). These particles are produced by machines that man produced using oil. When you aggregate the amount of pollutants that the world emits to the atmosphere, the levels are so high that it is enough to cause problems in human’s health.

There really is no escape from it. Unfortunately, not even in your own home. More than a decade ago, there were some measurements made on the level of indoor pollutants and they have found out that the air inside the home is so dirty, it could cause severe asthma or cancer even when you don’t it in your genes.

Dirty Air
The most common asthma trigger is dirty air. The thing is that the air may be contaminated through different ways. Someone from the outside who goes in the house may actually bring with him some dust from the outside. The best thing to do is install a portable dust collector. This is small enough for the house but powerful enough to keep the air clean.

Remember that even if the air may appear clean, simple equipment inside your home and house actually produces pollutants and if you add this to poor ventilation, it makes things worse for your health. If you have electrical and telephone cables, air conditioning systems and ducts, cleaning fluids such as those things you use for laundry, cigarette smoke, carpet, latex copying machines, vinyl molding, linoleum tile, and others, you are getting more pollutants than what you can handle.

Did you know that at any given day each of us inhales about 20,000 liters of air? In each of this inhale, we risk putting in particles of the air to in our lungs. These particles that may contain dangerous bacteria may trigger different diseases in our lungs including cancer and asthma.

The 20th century has witnessed the tremendous advancement in technology. People used to walk from one place to another but this has been replaced by the habit of driving a car or other motorized vehicles. Things like a car use oil that, when processed, produce air pollutants so fine, it is invisible to the naked eye.

These pollutants may also be found inside or outside our home. Someone who has walked the street will collect enough pollutants through his clothes or his own skin. When he goes inside the house, these same pollutants may be returned to the air inside the house cause indoor pollution. Add to this the natural pollutants that we put inside our house. Equipment and items that we use daily but we are never aware that they cause pollution such as bleaching materials, air conditioning system, electric fan, gas stove, sofa, and other things.

The sources of air pollution are both manmade and natural. The industrialization of the last decade has made the production of air pollutants rise to a level that the atmosphere is now unable to filter it thoroughly for humans to breathe. Natural calamities such as volcano eruption also contribute to air pollution.

It doesn’t help that air pollutants travel fast and it is also invisible to the naked eye. Glasses may actually be cut so fine that it can travel through air and end up in our lungs without us being aware of it. Yes, it is that bad.

Steps are already being taken for the world to be aware of how serious pollution has become but while things are still being debated on and while the world is still polluting the environment. Mothers can’t exactly do anything but to keep their homes clean. I suggest you buy a dust collection system with a really good dust collection hose. This will insure that your family is breathing in clean air.

Asthma is now curable. The development of modern medicine and the many research done on the disease have allowed even those that were born with the disease to fully recover and live a normal life. many professional athletes actually have asthma.

It is not correct to say, however, that each person with asthma reacts to one trigger the same way. Each person has a unique body type and health condition. This brings about unique ways of reacting to different factors. Generally, the condition of your asthma depends on what kind of external influences does your lungs react to and how they react. Some of these triggers may be so bad or severe that it can worsen your condition to the point of death.

It is important to note that not all triggers are necessarily dirty in nature. Things like excessive exercise or infections may cause asthma attacks. To further understand the different causes of attacks, let us study the irritants. There are actually two kinds of triggers: *allergens or specific kinds * nonallergens or general irritants.

The non allergens are the more general ones like extreme heat or dust. These are some triggers that affect almost all persons with asthma. This should be avoided by all cost lest you will get an extreme reaction that could lead to hospitalization or even death.

It is best to keep the air and environment around you clean if you have asthma. In your office and in your home, install a dust collection system with a perfectly maintained dust collector hose to ensure that the air that you breath is clean all the time.

Maintain a really clean home and office by cleaning regularly and installing a dust collection system with a perfectly maintained dust collector hose to ensure that you are breathing a clean and fresh air.

Have you ever wondered where the word asthma came from? Let’s take a look at its origin and also learn of how ancient physicians interpreted Asthma.

There is about 5,000 yearly recorded deaths due to asthma in the US. This is an unfortunate number considering we are talking about a disease that is now curable. Modern medicine can do something about it now. It is mind boggling how people suffer this disease and, eventually, cause them their life.

Asthma is a disease that inflames the bronchial airways. The air we breathe through our nose go in via the larynx or vocal cords and tranchea or the windpipe and then settles in the lungs. We have two lungs and it is divided by a bronchi divide. The air then goes through the bloodstream via tiny blood vessels, better known as the capillaries. We exhale carbon dioxide and is returned out of the body. The bronchial tubes are the passage of the air in and out of the lungs.

The bronchial tubes are made up smooth muscles that harden or relaxes as we breathe in and out. This contraction is very important and may get affected by different factors. The bronchial mucosa has mucus glands that lubricate the airways and inflammatory cells such as as eosinophils, lymphocytes, and mast cells. These protect the bronchial mucosa from the microorganisms, allergens, and irritants.

If you have a lot of allergies, have previous lungs disease and are in a bad weak point in your health, you may also develop this hyperreactivty condition. Several things may trigger this such as allergens, tobacco smoke, or exercise. However, this condition may not always have severe symptoms. To some people, they might not even feel their tubes are swollen.

Asthma is now a common and curable illness affecting one of every 15 children in America. There is a steady increase in reported cases in the last 20 years. The disease is curable but many still die of this.

The best way to get around this disease maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes eating a balanced diet, regular exercise, enough sleep and clean environment. Wear a dust mask if you are going to a place where there will be high levels of dust and if you can afford it, install dust collection systems in your home and office.

Coughing, shortness of breathing, and tightening of the chest are some of manifestations of an asthma attack. The bronchial tube, the passage way of the air from the nose to the lungs, tightens when it is exposed to the different triggers. The more accurate description is bronchial tube swelling. This happens when it is irritated. To protect itself from further damage, it swells as a sign for you to get out of the current situation you are in.

Everyone has to be careful about asthma triggers because there is one general trigger that is sure to cause an attack to everyone. Each person is unique making each trigger different for each person. The one with asthma has no choice but know what his triggers are so he can avoid getting exposed to all of them.

Below are some of the most common but notorious asthma triggers that people put themselves into. Stay away from all these for the sake of your health and the health of the ones you love.

Dirty Air
If you consistently expose yourself to dirty air or polluted air, your bronchial tube will not be able to take and it will get swollen. You have to make sure that you stay away from venues with dirty air. Install dust collecting systems in your home and office if the need be. The primary concern is to make sure you are breathing clean air.

Dust Mites
Dust mites are the most notorious because it is present everywhere. The only way around it, really, is to clean your surroundings as diligently as you can. You may also set up dust collecting systems. This will suck out all the dirty organism in the air and throw it back outside.

Cockroaches are usually attracted to places where people eat and that is the kitchen. Remove any left overs or unused food and water around. Make sure it is only in the refrigerator to keep these cockroaches away

Unless you’re an aquarium hobbyist or own a water purification system that uses carbon, the idea of activated carbon in HEPA air purifiers probably seems strange to you. Even if the concept isn’t completely foreign, most still don’t know exactly what activated carbon actually does.

How Is Active Carbon Used In HEPA Air Purifiers?

For most people, though, the first time they encounter activated carbon will be in choosing HEPA air purifiers. Most customer begin their search for air purifiers due to asthma or allergies. As they learn more about HEPA air purifiers, though, they’ll learn that many of their respiratory problems come from chemicals and odors in the room. Therefore, most quality HEPA air purifiers are designed to address the chemicals and odors as well as the allergens themselves.

Activated Carbon Before HEPA Air Purifiers

Activated carbon has actually been around for quite a while, and though it sounds quite scientific, our ancestors have made good use of it for at least the last two centuries. Back then, they already knew of activated carbon’s extraordinary absorption qualities. In the early 1900′s, the stuff was produced and sold commercially in the form of a powder. At the time it was only used to remove color from sugar or taste or smell from water. Although we didn’t know it at the time, that was barely the tip of what this stuff is capable of. In World War I, the military discovered that they could use activated carbon in gas masks, filtering chemical agents from the air for the soldiers. The soldiers also used it for water purification, just like their ancestors. By this point, it was also available commercially as a granular form instead of just powder, which was when it began finding uses in even more situations.

What The Word “Activated” Means

You’re probably wondering why we’re referring to this carbon as “activated.” Is there such a thing as non-activated carbon? Well, the heat used in “activating” the carbon is what drives out the impurities in the carbon itself. This leaves a place for the impurities in whatever it is the carbon is cleaning to reside. So activating carbon is kind of like emptying a sponge, only with head instead of pressure. After activated carbon becomes full, it can actually be reactivated by re-heating it. This is, however, not a good idea, and is considered dangerous and impractical. Non-activated carbon is basically charcoal or soot.

Is All Activated Carbon The Same?

There are different types of activated carbon, and it’s often described in different ways. Generally, however, activated carbon will include a wide variety of amorphous carbon-based materials. These materials will have many holes, or a high degree of porosity, covering a relatively large surface area, giving the material great absorbent ability. These characteristics are why it works so extremely well in filtering both water and air.

There’s a bunch of companies that are making things with HEPA labeling on them. There are all sorts of products out there ranging from HEPA vacuum cleaners to HEPA air conditioner filters, and you can generally find many of them in any retail department outlet. With all the different manufacturers that use this term, it’s sometimes difficult to know what you need to be looking for when buying a HEPA air purifier. Let’s examine Hunter HEPA air purifiers to see if they’re your best choice.

A Quick Summary Of Hunter’s Background

Hunter is certainly not a new name on the marketplace. Nowadays, the products that they manufacture require electricity for operation, but Hunter was innovating even before electricity was commonplace. The first product that they created and distributed, way back in the late 1800s, was a water-driven ceiling fan. How innovative is that? Electric thermostats and electric ceiling fans are their mainstay now. And obviously HEPA air purifiers.

Comparing Prices

There are three different types of Hunter HEPA air purifiers. The cheapest HEPA air purifiers available are probably Hunter’s old HEPAtech line. They’re still fairly widely available, even though they’re not longer made. A HEPAtech should be what you’re looking for if the primary goal is a cheap HEPA air purifier with a good name brand. Cheap or not, you still have to purchase and change filters, just like all HEPA filter air purifiers. Hunter’s replacement filters are generally pretty cheap, though, and also come in convenient packs. Even Hunter’s most current series, which they call QuietFlo, are among the least expensive around.

Almost All Hunter’s Are True HEPA Air Purifiers

Excepting the old HEPAtech purifiers, every one of Hunter’s machines are a true HEPA air purifier. The fact that they are true indicates that they will filter at least 99.7% of those air particles that have been shown to be the most dangerous. HEPA air purifiers without the “true” label aren’t held to specific standards, which means they could, theoretically, not filter air in any way. That doesn’t mean every HEPA-type machine is total trash, but you’re totally dependent on the quality control of the manufacturer.

What Makes Hunter Different?

Hunter HEPA air purifiers stand out in a couple of different ways. The first, most obvious, would be the price. A Hunter HEPA air purifier will probably be the cheapest in a comparison between it and others with similar capabilities and features. Then there are the features themselves. In each size, Hunter offers various feature sets. There are more than a dozen models with different feature sets in their newest series, the QuietFlo, enabling you to pick and choose what you want or need instead of being forced to pay for every feature under the sun. Is it safe to say that Hunters makes the best HEPA air purifier? That’s probably a stretch, but when it comes to value, they’re hard to beat.

If you’ve been browsing ionic air purifiers, you’ve most certainly come across the Ionic Pro air purifier. If you’re not actively looking to purchase one, you’ve still probably noticed the Ionic Pro Ionic Air Purifier late at night on the television. It seems they have become the infomercial kings since The Sharper Image ran into financial issues, when talking about ionic air purifiers, at least. With all the negativity surrounding the Ionic Breeze air purifiers, you’re probably curious if the Ionic Pro is any better.

Who Makes The Ionic Pro Air Purifier?

The Ionic Pro Air Purifier is built and sold by a company named Ionic Pro, LLC. They’re not owned, in part or whole, by another company. Actually, until recently, they had sold the Ionic Pro air purifier only on TV. Now, though, you can find these all over the place, Wal-mart included. That this company only makes air purifiers can be seen in a few different ways. Logically, as they only make various sizes of the Ionic Pro Air Purifier, they would easily be able to make a high quality product. Of course, being so small would make it easy for them to vanish as well.

Compared Against The Ionic Breeze Air Purifier

Ionic Pro air purifiers share all of their advantages with the very similar Ionic Breeze Air Purifier. The most obvious, the main, and many times only difference between them, is the design and shape of actual machine. The Ionic Pro Compact Air Purifier is similar in size to a smaller model of the Ionic Breeze. The Ionic Pro usually is available for less, though. As ionic air purifiers are fairly simple, you can probably safely buy the cheapest that is available to you.

Compared To HEPA Air Purifiers

It’s not as simple as you might think, comparing HEPA air purifiers to ionic air purifiers. Although they’re not quite as efficient, ionic air purifiers do basically the same job as a true HEPA air purifier. They use only a minimum of electricity, and are designed to run full time to compensate for the lower efficiency. Once the machine starts making a little buzzing noise, the bar that gathers all the junk has to be wiped off, but there’s never any filters to change. The filter itself is usually a HEPA air purifier’s biggest limitation. They are governed by the size of the holes in the filters, which is where air is forced through, blocking things that are not just air. Those air particles that are the most important for any air purifier to stop are 99.7% removed in a true HEPA air purifier. There is no such guarantee or standard when it comes to HEPA-type air purifiers, though. With ionic air purifiers, though, the biggest limitation is the air flow. While HEPA-type air purifiers can only filter what can’t pass through whatever size holes are in their filters, the ionic purifiers will eventually catch anything that’s attracted to that magnetized bar. This is important information to use when comparing the two. One disadvantage to an ionic air purifier is that it will only filter particles that 1 micron or bigger. The most dangerous and hardest to filter particles are 0.3 micron, and that’s what true HEPA air purifiers stop nearly 100% of.

The Ionic Pro Compact Air Purifier Compared Against The Other Ionic Pro Air Purifiers

The differences between the various ionic air purifiers offered by Ionic Pro, LLC aren’t generally feature related. Capacity is the biggest difference between them. In small offices and rooms in your home, the Ionic Pro Compact Air Purifier is a good buy. It does lack the “Medium” speed on its fan, utilizing a Lo and High only, although I have no idea why you wouldn’t want it on high. At about half the price of the standard unit, it may even make sense to purchase an Ionic Pro Compact Air Purifier for each side of a regular sized room, instead of one standard unit.

The term HEPA seems to be everywhere nowadays. There are HEPA filter air purifiers, HEPA filter vacuum cleaners, HEPA air conditioner filters, the list goes on and on. But what, exactly, is HEPA, what does it mean, and how does it work? Let’s examine the mighty HEPA air purifier, as well as other applications, to get a better understanding of this often used term.

Why is HEPA Capitalized?

Since HEPA is an acronym, it’s written in all capital letters. Spelled out, HEPA means “high efficiency particulate absorbing”. Some maintain that it really means “high efficiency particulate arrestance”, which is probably more accurate. Explained in plain English, HEPA air purifiers absorb, or at least put a stop to particulate matter, which are tiny, fine particles of stuff in the air that the human eye usually can’t see.

How Do HEPA Air Purifiers Help People?

As many of these particles come from manufactured sources, our respiratory systems often take exception to their presence. We will sometimes notice these particles as allergens or odors, but not always. In all too many situations, or bodies have no way of recognizing these particles, leaving them to wreak havoc with our bodies. This is why having something either stop or absorb these tiny particles can be such a boon to our health.

How Is a HEPA Air Purifier Different From Other Air Purifiers?

Not every air purifier is the same. The standard for air purification is generally accepted to be the HEPA standard. This comes from HEPA air purifiers being the most effective air filtration available for so many years. HEPA filter air purifiers are so incredibly good at their job because they are capable of stopping 0.3 micron air particles. There is a point to focusing on that particular size of particle. When it comes to our respiratory systems, particles that are 0.3 micrometers in diameter are both dangerous and difficult to stop or filter.

Is There Really A Difference Between HEPA-Type And HEPA Air Purifiers?

HEPA standards ensure that every true HEPA air purifier is up to par. To pass, they must be capable of stopping 99.7% of all 0.3 micron particles. There is a lot of science behind this, and the buyer can expect a price tag that reflects this. HEPA air purifiers are generally not cheap. You can also purchase HEPA-type air purifiers, generally right along side the true ones. These cheaper purifiers are not held to any standards at all. If you purchase a HEPA-type air purifier, you could easily get nothing but a highly ineffective fan. Don’t put too much stock in HEPA air purifier reviews, either. The vast majority of things that we can smell are not 0.3 micron particles, which means our noses have no way to know which is the best HEPA air purifier.

You remember the original Ionic Breeze air purifier, don’t you? They were all over the TV with infomercials, and made brief appearances at Radio Shacks as well as The Sharper Image’s retail stores, if you could find one. Then they were suddenly gone, and it seemed as if The Sharper Image went with them. Search the web and you’ll find tons of negative commentary about how The Sharper Image supposedly lied in their claims about the Ionic Breeze. Yet, if you can actually find any reviews written by people that used them, they all have good things to say about the Ionic Breeze. We’ll take a look at both sides of the coin and get to the truth of the Ionic Breeze air purifier.

Ionic Breeze Air Purifiers Do Not Clean The Air As Well As HEPA Air Purifiers

The Sharper Image never claimed that the Ionic Breeze cleaned the air as well as True HEPA purifiers. Like good business people, they avoided the subject of efficiency altogether, for the most part. The stuff hit the fan when Consumer Reports said the Ionic Breeze silent air purifier cleaned only 30% of pollution out of the air. However, you have to consider that 100% of the polluted air will have to pass in and out of the machine quite a few times. Getting something 30% clean over and over again will, after time, get you almost to 100%. No, it’s not as efficient, but one could say that ionic air purifiers, if given plenty of time, will do the job just as well as anything. They’re also much cheaper to purchase, operate, and maintain. Also, don’t forget that Consumer Reports only compared to True HEPA air purifiers as opposed to the much more common HEPA-type purifiers. HEPA-type air purifiers have no particular efficiency, while True HEPA machines are out of reach for many consumers.

Some Say The Ionic Breeze Produces Polluted Air

This comes from the idea that ionic air purifiers produce a dangerous amount of ozone when doing their job. This simply is not true. The confusion comes from ozone generators, which work in a fashion somewhat similar to ionic air purifiers, but produce far more ozone. In fact, Consumer Reports even said that the Ionic Breeze air purifier produces under 50ppb of ozone, which meets HEPA guidelines. For what it’s worth, the original Ionic Breeze air purifier passed every HEPA guideline, except for efficiency.

Some Say The Ionic Breeze Air Purifier Killed The Sharper Image

The Sharper Image did end up filing for bankruptcy in 2008, but not due to lack of sales. The reason they went under is because The Sharper Image was a publicly traded company, and their reputation had been so badly damaged that the price of their stock plummeted to well under a dollar per share. Even at the time of bankruptcy, the company actually had over $50 million equity, not including liquid cash. They simply couldn’t overcome the bad publicity, regardless of the quality of their products.

Are New Ionic Air Purifiers Any Better?

New ionic air purifiers really aren’t all that much better than the original, but the concept was so simple and effective that it would be really hard to improve upon. The simple fact is that an ionic air purifier will safely, albeit slowly, clean the air just as well as anything else, and cost a lot less doing it. Although the Ionic Breeze itself is nearly impossible to find, the Ionic Pro air purifier, as well as some generics, are readily obtainable.
